The Glory Of God

There is a truth revealed throughout the word of God that explains why Christians suffer, why God seems to wait until our situation seems impossible before he moves to deliver, why Jesus said “take up your cross and follow me”, why God chooses the weak and foolish things of the earth to confound the wise, why God chose Abraham and his children after him when they were the smallest family not the greatest, and just about every other question we have about the trials and the weaknesses Christians face.

It has to do with his glory being revealed in the earth according to his many promises.

As background to what I want to share, there is a series of three David Wilkerson messages explaining what the glory of God is. But I can only find Youtube links for messages two and three.

The Effects of Seeing the Glory of God

Walking in the Glory of God

It doesn’t matter if you read my message below or listen to David Wilkerson first. I listened to the Wilkerson messages several times before absorbing them completely.

August 8th 2019.

Two nights in a row the Holy Spirit gave me a prayer and the prayer was, “Lord, for the church to affect the world, the world needs to see you miraculously preserving and delivering your people.”

I was under the night sky where I had already learned months before that the stars cannot be seen in the day when the light is bright, they can only be seen at night when it is dark.

This is also true of the light in the lives of Christians. The bible reveals that the light of God is seen when it is dark, and more and more light is evident as the darkness increases.

And recently, David Wilkerson’s messages on the glory of God reminded me that the glory of God is not merely the manifestation of his power and kingdom, it is his nature as he revealed it to Moses on Mount Sinai, and reminded me that specifically, God’s glory is seen in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Cor 4:6). As Jesus walked the earth, the glory (nature) of God was revealed in him.

And then, last night, I remembered Isaiah 60 which says that “darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people, but the glory of the Lord shall arise upon thee and His glory shall be seen upon thee”. And I understood, with a true shout of joy, that God’s purpose for the darkness in the world, and God’s purpose for the persecution and suffering we all face, is to reveal his mercy and grace, which is his glory, in a dark world. GOD’S TRUE NATURE CANNOT BE FULLY REVEALED IN ANY OTHER WAY. This has been his plan all along and is what is described by Paul as God’s perfect will.

As we rest in his perfect will, we are totally (TOTALLY) secure in the love of God as we pass through the fire, the storm, and the shadow of death… in the process God is revealed in all of his glory… and, this has been his plan from the beginning.

This truth explains why Jesus was a Man of Sorrows, why Paul (as soon as he was saved) was told of all he would suffer for Jesus’ sake, and why true disciples of Jesus throughout the world all partake of the same sufferings to this day.

The glory of God is revealed as we rest secure in his will for our lives. He asks us to trust him, and when we do, a river of life springs up within, and we never again have to ask why, because we know that we are in the perfect will of God.

That is the revelation that made me shout, and that I am convinced will be a huge blessing to all who embrace it.

The Church Edifying Itself in Love

After moving from the city to the small town, we joined a nearby church, became friends with some other young couples, and started meeting for prayer in various homes.

One night at our home with approximately four other couples, we started to pray. After about half an hour, several individuals received the knowledge that Jesus wanted to baptize one of us with the Holy Spirit. Eventually someone had the courage to act on this knowledge and interrupt the prayer. Then after a brief discussion, we discovered that we agreed about the Lord’s direction, and gathering around the individual we laid our hands on her and began to pray.

Within 5 minutes the Holy Spirit came down, she was filled with the presence of God, and began speaking in tongues. It was a night of tremendous joy, except later her husband confessed his upset that the Holy Spirit had been given to her through others and not through himself.

Perhaps we should have known better and put him in charge of the prayer for his wife. Or perhaps God had to use others.

Either way, I’m thankful that the Lord teaches us gently and forgives our mistakes when we lean fully on him.

The Baptism with the Holy Spirit

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4)

Two weeks after being born again, I left the farm where I worked and started a new job as a purchasing agent for a manufacturer of mining exploration equipment. Two weeks later, another new employee started in the sales office, and about two weeks after that he came to my desk one morning with a big smile on his face.

“You’re a Christian, aren’t you?” he said. I was pleased that he noticed. So I responded, “Yes I’m a Christian.” Then with an even bigger smile and without any hesitation he said, “That’s nice, I’m a witch.”

It turned out that he was the warlock of a coven. And with a 7th degree black belt in the Korean martial art of Hapkido, he was fully immersed in the worship and power of satan. He was a friendly person, but pursued me for over a year, many times telling me that Lucifer was the powerful and illuminated one, and that Jesus could never do for me what Lucifer did for him. He demonstrated very real demonic power, particularly on two occasions, once “punching” me in the chest from about 40 feet away, hard enough to almost knock me down, and another time bringing a lightning strike down in the middle of the city on a nearby electric tower. Writing about it now sounds wild, but these incidents really happened.

But one day on the bus to work, God stepped in. After reading John’s gospel chapter 14, where Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you and shall be in you,” I arrived at my stop, and while closing my Bible, walked down the center aisle to the exit door praying, “Lord, I know you are with me – I want you in me.” I did not have any particular burden in mind. I just wanted to know God more than anything else in the world.

Immediately I was speaking in tongues (while walking down the steps of the transit bus to the street) and singing in tongues, and praising God. Walking the rest of the way to work, the praises, the songs, and a language I had never learned continued to flow from inside me for almost fifteen minutes. It wasn’t that I could not stop, I just did not want to!

Now let me explain the reason for telling this story.

Remember the witch, empowered by worshiping Lucifer and practicing martial arts, who was sent to my desk every day for 15 months to cast doubt? …..He never spoke to me again.

And from the day I received the Baptism with the Holy Spirit until the day I left that job 5 months later, I never once spoke to him about what had happened, but the demonic spirit in him recognized the Spirit of God in me and never challenged the name of Jesus again.

God wants to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Fast and pray and seek God. He is the one to trust now.
